Jamaican born Averil Spence-Clarke is a charismatic performer who has impressed audiences world wide both as a soloist and an ensemble musician.  In addition to receiving myriad awards and scholarships throughout her illustrious career, Averil has also achieved a Degree in Music with Honours Performance from the University of Western Ontario.

After graduating, she pursued her career in Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and the United States of America.  Averil also continued studying, taking lessons with Professor Geoffrey Gilbert of Stetson University, Deland, Florida; William Bennett, Principal flautist, London Philharmonic Orchestra and St. Martin in the Fields Orchestra and with Nicholas Fiore and Nora Schulman of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. She also participated in performance master classes in England, Italy, U.S.A. and Canada with Marcel Moyse, James Galway, Jean Pierre Rampal, Per Oien, William Bennett and Robert Aitken. An interest in conducting also led her to take lessons with John Greer, former Associate Conductor of the Canadian Opera Company.

Since settling in Windsor, Spence-Clarke has been very active as a performer with the flute and harp duo “Jubal’s Daughters” that she formed with harpist, Anita Leschied and with whom she has released two CD’s. She can also be heard on CD's with other musicians and in compellations.  Averil performs as a soloist with a myriad of other musicians and ensembles.  She has served as the Past President of the Federation of Musicians, Local 566, former Senior Flute Teacher and Flute Pedagogy instructor with the Academy St. Cecile and Music Coordinator and Flute Instructor for the Kids Art Smart After School program Instructor.

Averil has been teaching piano, flute, piccolo, recorders and theory in her own studio since September 2000. Ms. Spence-Clarke is a Certified Teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music and has graduated many students at all levels of piano, flute and theory.  She also served as the Flute Instructor Specialist for the Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts program presented through the Greater Essex County District School Board & Resource specialist for many schools both in the public and catholic system. 

Ms. Spence-Clarke also enjoys conducting and is the Founder/Conductor of the "ASC Flute Choir", a community group of flautists of all ages and levels. They rehearse weekly and perform throughout the year for churches, schools and in concerts.  She was also the Interim Guest Conductor for the Central Seniors Concert Band until the advent of COVID.
